Position Overview

As a Senior Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for the quality assurance review of engineering initiatives. You will monitor the progress of various engineering design and construction projects by evaluating and providing feedback on submitted schedules. Your role will include reviewing change orders, requests for information, field modifications, and payment requests. You will act as a project manager for assigned projects, ensuring adherence to project management protocols while working under general supervision. This position requires experience in municipal water and wastewater design and construction or electrical power distribution and systems for industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct thorough reviews of design plans and specifications to ensure completeness and accuracy, coordinating questions and feedback with operational teams.
  2. Maintain comprehensive project records using standardized forms and correspondence.
  3. Evaluate requests for information, field modifications, and change orders for construction projects, providing technical support to field inspectors while maintaining updates on status, budget, and schedule for management.
  4. Facilitate and lead project design review meetings and construction progress discussions.
  5. Offer technical assistance for tie-ins and shutdowns as required.
  6. Support and advise the Operations Departments on special projects and information requests.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and project management software is essential.

Education and Experience
  1. A degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  2. Professional Engineering Registration in the State of Texas.
  3. Experience in water/wastewater processes, treatment, pumping, collection (wastewater), and transmission (water) pipeline design and construction; or electrical experience in medium and low voltage systems.
  4. Experience with engineering design and project management software.
  5. A valid Texas Driver's License is required.
Work Environment

This role involves moderate physical labor and significant mental focus, with potential for eyestrain. The working conditions are generally favorable, though some site visits may expose you to varying environmental conditions. A considerable amount of time will be spent working with and viewing computer screens, as well as reviewing plans, specifications, and reports. Some time will be spent at construction sites, navigating rough terrain, and climbing stairs and ladders to access structures. Equipment utilized includes calculators, computers, and some field survey tools.
