JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:


The Department of Geosciences at Penn State is in search of a Program Coordinator for Educational Initiatives to support administrative and financial operations while delivering exceptional customer service.

This role will be crucial to the International GeoBiology Course (IGC), the Consortium for Planetary and Exoplanetary Science and Technology (CPEST), and Dr. Kate Freeman's laboratory.



Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the coordination, planning, and organization of the IGC and associated events such as the Mini-Symposium, including:
- Coordinate field excursions, guest speaker engagements, and course activities (both domestically and internationally).

- Arrange catering services, secure venues, and manage lodging logistics for participants.

- Facilitate course registration and manage tuition payments.

- Procure supplies and compile all course-related documentation.

- Reconcile expenses, process honorarium payments, and generate the final budget report.

Communication Management:
- Develop announcement and marketing emails, maintain listservs, and act as the primary contact for course-related inquiries.

- Update and maintain the course webpage.

- Create job postings for undergraduate student positions.

- Organize recurring IGC Alumni Meetings at relevant conferences.

Event Coordination for CPEST:
- Manage venue selection, guest speaker logistics, and accommodation arrangements.

- Order necessary supplies and prepare event schedules.

- Reconcile expenses and prepare the final budget report.

Support for Dr. Freeman's Laboratory:
- Order supplies and manage travel expense reconciliations.

- Ensure compliance with Penn State lab safety training for new students.

- Collaborate with OPP and manage scheduling.

- Assist with award reporting.

Required Qualifications:


This position requires a High School Diploma/GED or Vocational Training/Degree or higher plus two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information:
This is a limited-term appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of re-funding.

Penn State offers competitive benefits to full-time employees, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans, in addition to generous vacation time (18 days per year; accrued on a monthly basis), sick time (12 days a year; accrued on a monthly basis), and paid holidays (14 per calendar year).

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
