The
Aviation Maintenance Specialist III (UH60, AH64, and/or CH47) is tasked with the upkeep, repair, and modification of aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of varying complexity. This role encompasses the maintenance and repair of aircraft components, including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical parts. The specialist applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to identify equipment malfunctions and utilizes expertise to restore equipment functionality.

This position also requires the application of professional technical skills to resolve intricate issues by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturer manuals.

Work demands a comprehensive understanding of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting and repair procedures, along with a solid grasp of aircraft sheet metal and structural modifications.

A detailed knowledge of specialized aircraft tools, including test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, and cable tensiometers, is essential.

The specialist must demonstrate the experience and capability to provide technical support to structural and mechanical engineers, as well as clients, while showcasing excellent organizational skills to prioritize tasks effectively to meet aircraft delivery timelines.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting inspections on all assigned aircraft.
  • Utilizing the Government STAMIS for maintaining Army aircraft forms and records.
  • Planning, executing, and overseeing technical inspections of aircraft.
  • Calculating basic weight and balance records.
  • Participating in maintenance test flights and operational checks as necessary.
  • Ensuring adherence to aircraft configuration control, Army oil analysis programs, and calibration of test measuring diagnostic equipment.
  • Providing mentorship to junior technicians in aircraft repair and technical inspection methods according to directives and operational policies.
  • Preparing evaluations, special reports, and documentation related to aircraft maintenance and repair activities.
  • Prioritizing workloads and leading teams through complex aircraft-related tasks.
  • Inspecting all necessary aeronautical maintenance performed by Mechanics.
  • Removing and installing aircraft subsystem assemblies and components such as engines, rotors, and mechanical flight controls.
  • Safely preparing aircraft for inspections and maintenance checks.
  • Conducting scheduled inspections and assisting in special inspections.
  • Performing limited maintenance operational checks and diagnosing aircraft systems using specialized tools.
  • Utilizing and maintaining tools and aircraft ground support equipment.
  • Applying comprehensive technical expertise to resolve moderate issues by interpreting technical documentation.
  • Employing knowledge of electrical theory and aircraft-specific tools.
  • Participating in maintenance test flights and operational checks as required.
  • Utilizing technical publications and the Government STAMIS for aircraft log entries.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must possess a
    valid A&P license and have five (5) years of aviation maintenance experience, five (5) years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two (2) years on the assigned Mission Design Series (UH60, AH64, and/or CH47).
  • If lacking an A&P license, must have five years of aviation maintenance experience, five years of rotary wing aircraft experience, and two years on the assigned MDS.
  • All experience must be within the last ten (10) years.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Travel Team - Must be available to travel up to 75% of the time, as operationally required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Must possess the necessary experience to inspect all required aeronautical maintenance performed by Mechanic I and have a combination of experience in repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train, and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty.
  • Thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, diagnosing problems, repair procedures, and parts replacement.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical theory is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of aircraft-specific tools.
  • Working knowledge of making entries in aircraft logbooks, military technical publications, and the Army's Unit Level Logistics Aviation Information System.
  • Thorough understanding of aircraft sheet metal and structural modification and repair.
  • Ability to assess the functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Detailed knowledge of aircraft-specific tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

Working Conditions
  • Work may occur in an aircraft maintenance hangar or outdoors.
  • May be required to respond to various operational circumstances, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Exposure to high noise levels from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
  • Potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles; may work near moving mechanical parts or vehicles.

Travel
  • May require domestic and international travel on short notice, to austere environments under challenging living conditions.
