Position Overview:

The Planner I role is essential in providing daily planning assistance for the operational craft related to the implementation of detailed planning for the Eastern Shipbuilding Group, Inc. This includes the formulation of the Integrated Master Schedule and the creation of quantifiable backup detail inputs, which encompass the development of work packages, logical relationships, resource allocation, integration with other Integrated Product Team (IPT) plans, Critical Path Analysis, and change management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain regular attendance and the flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Create Level of Effort (LOE) support work packages and work orders to assist support groups in aligning with the master schedule.
  • Develop detailed work packages and work orders based on technical drawings and Cost Account Manager (CAM) inputs.
  • Formulate logical sequences and justifications for work packages and work orders, including lag times and duration estimates.
  • Generate, monitor, and manage changes to work packages driven by Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) or Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs).
  • Establish basis of estimates for work packages grounded in industry standards and actual performance metrics.
  • Design and implement planning staffing models that optimize labor, cost, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate BCR (Budget Change Request) completion and workflow.
  • Execute tasks in accordance with ESG's ISO standards, Planning and Scheduling Excellence, and Earned Value Management System (EVMS) guidelines.
  • Assist CAMs with scheduling, labor management, and subcontractor planning.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly and monthly reports.
  • Uphold high standards of planning quality.
  • Support CAMs in variance analysis.
  • Facilitate planning for multiple projects within the craft.
  • Identify dependencies across various crafts.
  • Communicate effectively with CAMs to receive updates on assigned tasks.
  • Address operational delays impacting production schedules and adjust timelines to accommodate unforeseen circumstances.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective production operations through effective information management and sharing.
  • Provide necessary information for Earned Value Management reporting.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not entail formal supervisory duties.

Reporting Structure:

The Planner I will report directly to the Planning and Scheduling Supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS Degree in Business Administration, Management, Construction, or Engineering is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in a planning role or related field is required.
  • Trade experience and a combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Experience in industrial engineering, shipbuilding, and production processes is preferred.

Certifications:

  • Control Account Manager certification is required.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with various web-based design and collaboration tools.

Physical Demands:

This position is primarily office-based, requiring routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.

Work Environment:

The work environment is typical of an office setting, with a low to moderate noise level.
