Position Overview:

The Mechanical Engineer – Powertrain is responsible for designing robust, efficient, and cost-effective components for heavy-duty vehicles. This role involves conducting engineering analyses, designing or redesigning components, and integrating them into both existing and new vehicle models.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Conduct basic engineering calculations and investigations under close supervision, adhering to Oshkosh and industry standards.
  • Assist senior engineers in developing foundational plans, designs, computational methods, and reports.
  • Engage in projects of limited complexity, providing support as needed.
  • Collaborate with various engineering and business support teams, as well as external suppliers.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers and internal customers regarding technical matters.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering criteria and drawing standards, while addressing technical issues within company policies.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.
  • Perform engineering analyses to select appropriate parts, components, and materials.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support.
  • Analyze and resolve engineering issues through effective communication.
  • Prepare technical proposals, reports, and presentations.
  • Utilize analytical methods to model system performance and optimize designs.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, along with internship experience or at least six months of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
• Knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle systems and components.
• Proficiency with advanced CAD software.

Supervisory Role: General oversight and review of work performed by others in similar roles.

Working Conditions:

Physical Demands: Frequent activities include standing, walking, sitting, reaching, and typing; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
Non-Physical Demands: Frequent analytical reasoning, communication, and sustained mental activity.
Environmental Factors: Regularly working independently with frequent task changes.
