Position: Assistant Coach for Girls' Volleyball
Scarsdale Public Schools is in search of an enthusiastic and collaborative individual who possesses a passion for education and a sincere commitment to the holistic development of student-athletes. Candidates should exhibit comprehensive knowledge and a proven track record in coaching volleyball. The ideal applicant will appreciate the significance of a scholastic athletic experience, emphasizing player development and growth. A valid NYS certification in physical education or a coaching license is mandatory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to assist in the organization and oversight of a comprehensive sports program. Prior successful coaching experience in the designated sport is preferred. The assistant coach should have extensive knowledge of the technical components of volleyball while remaining open to new methodologies and practices relevant to the sport. Must serve as a positive role model for student-athletes through actions and guidance.

SUPERVISION:
Reports directly to the athletic director, who outlines overall objectives and conducts evaluations in collaboration with high school administration.

OBJECTIVE:
To educate athletes in the essential skills, strategies, and physical conditioning required for individual and team success. Additionally, the coach must promote behaviors that foster character development, self-discipline, confidence, and a sense of achievement among student-athletes. Continuous professional development through coaching clinics and peer observations is encouraged.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Familiarity with all athletic policies set forth by the Scarsdale Public Schools' Board of Education and ensuring their implementation across the sports program. Knowledge of existing systems, state, and league regulations; consistently applying and interpreting these for the coaching staff. Understanding the administrative hierarchy and directing all requests or concerns through the appropriate channels.

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS:

Assists the Head Coach in scheduling practices and competitions. Aids in the preparation for scheduled events and adheres to facility usage times. Assists in gathering necessary documentation to meet state, section, and school requirements regarding physical exams, parental consent, and eligibility. Ensures proper maintenance and security of assigned equipment and facilities.

STUDENT ENGAGEMENT:

Acts as a mentor to athletes, promoting the development of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Monitors student-athletes' academic performance and behavior closely. Provides guidance and support during practices, competitions, and travel. Communicates training rules and unique sport regulations to all participating athletes. Initiates protocols for managing injuries, medical needs, and emergencies. Completes injury documentation promptly and submits it to the athletic office. Oversees student managers, assistants, and statisticians.

FINANCIAL AND EQUIPMENT MANAGEMENT:

Participates in the budgeting process with the athletic director to establish needs for the upcoming season. Responsible for adhering to budget constraints. Accountable for all equipment, including tracking losses and managing inventory. Ensures proper labeling and identification of all equipment. Monitors access to equipment rooms and coaches' offices. Ensures cleanliness and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Secures all areas before leaving if custodial staff is unavailable. Instills respect for equipment and school property among athletes.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS:

Organizes preseason meetings for parents, coaches, players, and guests. Promotes the volleyball program within the school and community, encouraging participation from potential athletes. Responsible for the quality and accuracy of communications with local media. Maintains positive relationships with media, booster clubs, parents, officials, volunteers, and fans. Provides information to the media regarding schedules, tournaments, and results.
