Position Overview:

The Senior Medical Assistant Supervisor (SMAS) is a seasoned professional skilled in comprehensive medical assistant care, recognized for exceptional teamwork and leadership capabilities.

In this position, the individual will oversee a cooperative team of medical assistant professionals, providing daily direction and mentorship.

This role involves close collaboration with healthcare providers across various specialties, as well as with clinical and administrative personnel, to ensure an outstanding patient experience that fosters positive health outcomes and a workplace culture centered on Service, Trust, Empathy, Safety, Inclusion, and Communication.


Key Responsibilities:
Clinical and Front Desk Support:
• Welcome patients and visitors, responding to phone inquiries promptly.
• Organize pre-visit information, escort patients, document concerns, and update electronic medical records (EMR) as necessary.
• Assist patients with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing, preparing them for examinations, and serving as a chaperone when requested.
• Support physicians and clinical staff during examinations, procedures, and specific therapies as needed.
• Conduct phlebotomy and point-of-care tests, including urinalysis and pregnancy tests.
• Prepare, label, and deliver specimens accurately.
• Ensure proper lab tests are conducted and documented in the EMR system, assisting in resolving any discrepancies.
• Enter orders into the EMR system.
• Alert medical staff to emergencies and provide first aid as required.
• Sterilize and organize instruments daily.
• Maintain medical charts and manage requests for medical records.
• Perform additional check-out functions, including scheduling and referrals, as needed.
• Undertake other assigned duties.

Administrative and Leadership Duties:
• Assist management with daily staffing schedules, time-off requests, and same-day absences, ensuring adequate coverage and addressing related issues.
• Act as a mentor for new and existing staff, guiding and supporting medical assistants.
• Identify opportunities for enhancing clinic operations and propose alternative procedures or resources.
• Collaborate with front- and back-end support teams and healthcare providers.
• Facilitate communication regarding organizational initiatives, changes, or other matters as necessary, providing feedback to management and advocating for the team.
• Engage in debriefing sessions and quality improvement practices.
• Promote transparency, encourage event reporting, and enhance the safety culture.
• Assist in onboarding and training new or less experienced medical assistants, sharing knowledge and offering mentorship.
• Maintain diagnostic equipment, perform quality control testing, and keep supporting documentation.
• Keep daily logs for refrigerators/freezers, monthly logs for automated external defibrillators (AED), and other quality assurance logs.

Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent, with graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program and relevant certifications.
• Certification from a recognized credentialing body is required.
• Minimum of three years of experience in a medical assistant role.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification required.
• Demonstrated proficiency in EMR systems.
• Prior experience in front desk operations and workflows is preferred.
• Candidates should exhibit strong attention to detail, adaptability, and the ability to work independently.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards, including biohazard waste disposal, is essential.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are necessary.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to de-escalate stressful situations effectively.
• Proficiency in computer applications, including Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and email systems.
• Flexibility to provide coverage across multiple sites as needed.
• An associate degree or additional coursework is preferred.
• Experience in a multi-specialty, high-volume environment is advantageous.
• Previous experience with EMR systems, particularly Epic, is preferred.
• Experience in a training or senior medical assistant role is a plus.

Compensation:
• Hourly rate: $35.58
