Electrical Staff Engineer - EV Charging

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is on the lookout for an experienced Electrical Staff Engineer to enhance our Electrical Engineering Team. This role focuses on the interconnection and design of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Responsibilities include layout design for BESS and EV charging sites, selecting and sizing distribution equipment, and determining interconnection specifications.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the Project Lead and Senior Engineers to uphold company standards and ensure project consistency. Additionally, this role involves supervising interns, electrical designers, and drafters throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the electrical engineering aspects of EV Charging and Energy Storage projects.
  • Evaluate utility service and interconnection requirements, compiling technical documentation for client applications.
  • Work in conjunction with various project disciplines, including civil and structural engineering teams.
  • Execute electrical engineering designs and prepare construction documentation.
  • Conduct electrical calculations and analyses, such as short circuit and load flow studies.
  • Stay informed about current equipment and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering teams across different offices as project demands necessitate.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Renewable Engineering field.
  • Familiarity with NEC standards.
  • Proficient in electrical power system modeling software.

Experience Requirements:

  • 2 to 6 years of experience in electrical distribution, generation design, or general electrical construction.
  • Ability to read and create service and interconnection application packages, as well as construction drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce detailed technical reports independently.
  • Demonstrated work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.
  • Basic proficiency in AutoCAD.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design and construction of renewable energy projects.
  • Familiarity with EV charging technologies.
  • Knowledge of lighting design and photometric analysis tools.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Possession of an Electrical PE License or the potential to obtain one.
  • Experience with energy storage systems and relevant modeling software.
  • Knowledge of microgrid design and backup generator systems.
