Wildlife Care Technician for Elephant Conservation

Position Overview:
The Wildlife Care Technician will play a crucial role in supporting the mission of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums by ensuring the safe and effective care of a designated wildlife collection.

Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and provide nourishment and hydration for wildlife in habitats.
- Manage the logistics of food delivery and storage.
- Feed and monitor the health of exhibit animals.
- Administer medications as directed and maintain accurate feeding logs.
- Observe and report on the condition of assigned wildlife to supervisors.
- Maintain cleanliness of exhibit spaces, including pools and sleeping areas.
- Sanitize tools and equipment used in wildlife care.
- Implement species-specific enrichment activities for wildlife.
- Keep detailed health and behavior records for assigned animals.
- Engage with the public, providing information about exhibits.
- Assist in the capture and relocation of wildlife as needed.
- Support wildlife training initiatives and collaborate with veterinary staff in medical treatments.
- Conduct routine maintenance on animal enclosures and report any repair needs.
- Operate light to medium machinery as required.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of one year of experience with hoofed animals or large carnivores in an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of husbandry practices for various mammal species is essential.

Experience:
- One to two years of relevant experience in a zoo or similar environment where skills in wildlife care can be developed.

Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Zoology, Life Sciences, or a related field is preferred.
- A valid driver's license in good standing is required.

Skills and Knowledge:
- Understanding of wildlife behavior and biology.
- Proficient in the care, feeding, and handling of wild animals.
- Familiarity with safety protocols around wildlife.
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adhere to organizational policies and perform essential job functions competently.
