The County of San Diego is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Planning Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Parks and Recreation Department, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of our region's natural resources.

Job Summary

We are looking for a talented individual with a strong background in biology and land use planning to provide biological expertise and implement the Multiple Species Conservation Program (MSCP). The selected candidate will review biological resources survey reports, develop long-term MSCP planning documents, and implement and document management and monitoring strategies for plant and animal species on Parks and Recreation properties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide biological expertise to support the implementation of the MSCP
  • Review and analyze biological resources survey reports and data
  • Develop and implement long-term MSCP planning documents and strategies
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective management and monitoring of biological resources
  • Conduct fieldwork and surveys to gather data on plant and animal species
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor's degree in biology with a concentration in wildlife and/or botany, and at least two years of professional-level experience in the field of biology as it relates to land use/environmental planning
  • Or a master's degree in biology with a concentration in wildlife and/or botany, and at least one year of professional-level experience in the field of biology as it relates to land use/environmental planning
  • Or one year of experience as a Land Use/Environmental Planner I with the County of San Diego
