About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Human Resources to join our team at the St. Louis Jewish Community Center. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing effective people strategies and tactics to drive business results and improve employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in strategic planning and play a key role in ensuring successful employee recruitment, engagement, and retention initiatives.
  • Continuously evaluate and review current HR practices, handbook, and policies to make recommendations for new approaches that support the organization and desired employee culture.
  • Oversee all aspects of employee relations, ensuring policies are administered fairly and consistently by providing consultative, training, and coaching support to managers and supervisors.
  • Ensure legal compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal employment laws, including but not limited to FLSA, FMLA, and ADA, to minimize risk and exposure to the organization.
  • Conduct employee investigations and oversee all escalated employee issues.
  • Oversee and manage a performance management system that drives, recognizes, and rewards high performance.
  • Review and oversee unemployment and workers' compensation claims.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of a comprehensive compensation and benefits plan that is competitive and cost-effective.
  • Participate in budget planning and manage departmental expenses.
  • Serve as the liaison to the J employee union and manage Labor Relations Program, coordinate and participate in negotiations as needed.
  • Oversee Human Resources communications, including the monthly HR newsletter.
  • Back up for Benefits Manager as needed.
  • Supervise Volunteer Coordinator.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or organization behavior or related field, master's degree preferred.
  • Certifications for Human Resource Professionals (PHR, SPHR) preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years' experience as an HR generalist/manager/director. Experience with Paylocity preferred.
  • Proven progressive HR experience in which both day-to-day and strategic efforts are required.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous situations and adaptable to change.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to analyze and present information in a way that is understood by everyone within the organization.
  • Able to effectively delegate, train, and develop team members throughout the organization in HR-related policies and procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in the legalities of business law in relation to HR and employee employment rights, including wage & hour laws, recruiting, and any other federal, state, or local laws.
  • Strong ability to develop relationships and partner with employees at all levels.
  • Extremely well organized and methodical in your approach to problem-solving, documentation, and ability to manage multiple tasks and an ever-changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in working alongside executive leadership.
Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer. Must be able to lift 20 pounds at times.
