Position Overview

The Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch is a unique organization dedicated to providing hope and support for troubled youth and their families. We focus on professional care, compassionate expertise, and fostering new opportunities for personal growth.

Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated Wellness Specialist to facilitate wellness initiatives for the young individuals in our care. This role can be filled on a full-time or part-time basis.

Work Schedule: Evening shifts during weekdays and alternating weekends, totaling approximately 24 hours weekly, with potential for additional hours.

Key Responsibilities:

The Wellness Specialist will be tasked with executing the wellness program's objectives, which include:

  • Engaging youth in physical activities, exploring hobbies, and developing essential skills.
  • Collaborating with youth to identify and pursue their interests both within and outside of treatment.
  • Organizing, preparing, and overseeing activities with youth, whether in group settings or one-on-one, on or off the premises.
Building Relationships:

Establishing positive connections with youth is crucial. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing guidance and support while recognizing each youth's strengths.
  • Coordinating with youth and the treatment team to explore activities that foster skill and interest development.
  • Encouraging active participation in daily activities.
Creating a Supportive Environment:

Fostering a nurturing atmosphere is essential for growth. Duties involve:

  • Assessing and responding to the physical and emotional needs of youth in line with their individualized treatment plans.
  • Ensuring a safe environment for wellness activities.
  • Advocating for the needs of youth and their families.
Commitment to Learning:

Continuous improvement of our programs is vital. Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting in the rollout of wellness programs such as fitness activities, gardening, and seasonal programming.
  • Supporting the achievement of wellness goals through individual sessions with youth.
  • Documenting progress through tracking forms and notes.
Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 21 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
  • Possession of a valid state driver's license with an insurable driving record.
  • One year of experience working with youth or completion of required training.
  • Preference for candidates with degrees or certifications in relevant fields such as Physical Education or Personal Training.
  • Experience with equine activities is a plus.
