Job Overview

Position Objective:

The role involves conducting swimming lessons for families as directed by the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator, while ensuring a secure pool environment for participants and visitors. This position requires providing direct oversight for all aquatic activities under the guidance of the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator. The primary responsibility is to uphold a safe swimming area while enforcing Family Wellness policies, rules, and safety protocols for members, guests, and staff.

Key Responsibilities (Swimming Instruction):

  • Enhances swimming abilities in participants and communicates any concerns to their guardians. Establishes rapport with students through regular attendance and clear expectations.
  • Ensures the safety of all class participants.
  • Effectively manages and guides students in a constructive manner that aligns with Family Wellness standards and safety protocols.
  • Implements and/or creates lesson plans that are engaging and suitable for each class level.
  • Maintains communication with the Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Coordinator, and Aquatics Lead regarding all relevant programs.
  • Assesses and documents the progress of all students, providing feedback at the conclusion of each lesson series.
  • Completes additional pool setup, takedown, and cleaning tasks as needed.
  • Understands and adheres to the policies and procedures of the Aquatics Department and Family Wellness.
  • Collaborates and shares information with other Family Wellness personnel.

Key Responsibilities (Lifeguarding):

  • Maintains oversight of the pool area and enforces safety regulations in a firm yet positive manner.
  • Responsible for the safety of all individuals in the pool vicinity.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of Aquatics Department and Family Wellness policies and procedures.
  • Keeps the pool and surrounding area clean and free from potential hazards, notifying the Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Coordinator, or maintenance staff of any issues or necessary repairs.
  • Remains vigilant and prepared to prevent unsafe situations and assist those in need within the facility.
  • Completes additional pool setup, takedown, and cleaning tasks as required.
  • Maintains consistent communication with the Aquatics Manager and Aquatics Coordinator.
  • Shares resources and information with fellow Family Wellness employees.
  • Ensures the pool is never left unattended unless it is completely empty, and all access points are secured.
  • Records measurements of water and air quality, reporting any irregularities or concerns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, & Skills (Minimum Requirements):

Applicants must be at least 15 years old. Previous experience in teaching is preferred but not mandatory. Current lifeguard certification is preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

Training in Family Wellness swim lesson instruction will be provided upon hiring, including classroom instruction and shadowing experienced instructors.

American Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid is required within three months of hiring.
