Position Overview

The Vice Provost for Global Engagement and Services (VPGES) reports directly to the Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and collaborates with the leadership of the Office of the Provost, various schools, and other institutional units to advance initiatives, projects, and scholarly activities pertinent to Emory's global and international endeavors.

This pivotal leadership position within the Office of the Provost is responsible for promoting international engagement at the institutional level, cultivating global partnerships, and assisting Emory's faculty, staff, and students with their international pursuits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in close partnership with academic and administrative units to ensure that Emory's international programs and support services are aligned with the university's mission and core values.
  • Oversee the management of global/international programs, international student services, global research collaborations, and faculty-led initiatives.
  • Provide leadership for departments including International Student and Scholar Services, Halle Institute for Global Research, Global Services, Global Safety and Security, and Atlanta Global Partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Provost and university leaders to shape Emory University's global strategy in line with the institution's mission and strategic objectives.
  • Partner with the Office of Advancement and Alumni Engagement on international matters concerning donors, initiatives, and programs.
  • Engage with academic deans, Vice Provosts, department chairs, faculty, and other stakeholders to enhance student engagement efforts, including study abroad programs and international student recruitment.
  • Support faculty in their international research endeavors.
  • Maintain partnerships with international institutions, organizations, and governmental agencies to facilitate collaborative research, academic exchanges, and initiatives aimed at increasing master's degree enrollment through international partnerships.
  • Foster cross-cultural understanding and sensitivity within the university community through training programs, workshops, and educational initiatives.
  • Manage the budget and resources allocated for international engagement activities, ensuring effective use of financial resources.
  • Enhance the financial profile through international engagement and student recruitment initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant US and international laws, regulations, and institutional policies regarding international activities.
  • Mitigate risks associated with international engagement, ensuring the safety of students and scholars during international travel.
  • Act as a spokesperson and advocate for Emory's international engagement initiatives, representing the university in various forums and events.
  • Communicate Emory's global impact in research and education.
  • Collect and analyze data related to global engagement activities in accordance with Emory's data governance framework, preparing reports for university leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in global higher education, providing guidance and support to faculty, staff, and students involved in international activities.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A terminal degree in Higher Education Administration, International Studies, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in international education, global affairs, or related areas, preferably within a higher education context.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as necessary. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership skills, with a history of successful program development and management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad. Familiarity with internationalization frameworks and accreditation standards in higher education.
  • Proficiency in language facilitation.
