JOB DESCRIPTION - Autonomous Systems Software Engineer

At Qualified Technical Services, we are at the forefront of innovation in autonomous systems. Our focus is on advancing the capabilities of spacecraft through intelligent coordination and autonomy. We recognize that the future of space exploration relies on distributed systems that ensure reliability, resilience, and seamless interaction among multiple spacecraft.

Our team is dedicated to developing the foundational infrastructure that enables autonomous operations in space. We foster an environment of collaboration and creativity, where each team member takes ownership of their area while contributing to the collective success of the project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive trade studies to analyze and propose effective solutions to complex challenges.
  • Engage in the design and development of autonomy algorithms.
  • Support the implementation of multi-fidelity hardware-in-the-loop simulations for numerous spacecraft.
  • Integrate realistic hardware constraints and capabilities into the simulation framework.
  • Create essential documentation, including design specifications, interface definitions, and testing reports.
  • Execute unit and integration testing, along with code review processes.

Tools Utilized:

  • MATLAB
  • C++14, C++ templates, C++ standard & C++ Boost libraries, CMake, GTest
  • Python, Numpy, Pandas, Poetry
  • Atlassian Software Development Tools (Confluence, JIRA, Bitbucket, Bamboo)
REQUIREMENTS - Autonomous Systems Software Engineer

Education: B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline

Experience: 6+ years of relevant experience

Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident

Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
  • Knowledge of decentralized control and estimation techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB.
  • A strong enthusiasm for emerging technologies and a desire to apply development expertise to research challenges.
  • Understanding of best practices in development, testing, and integration.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with Core Flight Software (cFS) or comparable flight software.
  • Experience in orbital mechanics simulation (STK, GMAT, etc.).
  • Proficient in C/C++ programming.
  • Knowledge of optimization methodologies.
