Lead Software Engineer, Autonomous Systems

We specialize in delivering goods efficiently and safely using medium-duty trucks, focusing on short-haul, B2B logistics for prominent clients, including Fortune 500 companies. Our mission is to enhance operational efficiency, improve service levels, and streamline product flow across various locations while minimizing labor costs and meeting the growing demand for rapid deliveries.
Position Overview:
We are looking for experienced software engineers at the senior or staff level to join our planning team. This role involves developing advanced motion planning and decision-making systems, guiding new products from concept to production. Our team is responsible for calculating safe trajectories for autonomous vehicles, utilizing mapping and localization data, waypoints, and predicted interactions with other entities. Your expertise will be crucial in enhancing planning for emergency scenarios and complex maneuvers, such as accessing loading docks and navigating variable lane changes.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and refine algorithms across the motion planning spectrum, including route planning, trajectory optimization, and decision-making processes.
- Collaborate with research engineers to create maintainable, scalable, and testable software architectures and implementations.
- Formulate policies and strategies to manage interactions among multiple actors and navigate uncertainty in planning.
- Incorporate remote guidance requests and autonomous behaviors into the remote assistance framework.
- Transform algorithms from initial concept through to implementation and deployment.
- Conduct testing of algorithms in simulation environments, controlled vehicle settings, and ultimately in real-world scenarios.
- Provide support for all technical aspects of the development process.
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficient in large-scale cloud infrastructure, such as G-Cloud or AWS.
- Hands-on experience in software development for autonomous vehicles.
- Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
- Experience in code optimization and high-performance computing.
- Familiarity with numerical optimization algorithms.
- Experience handling large datasets.
- Proficient in modern container technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience in applied research environments.
- Knowledge of machine learning applications for planning challenges (e.g., Imitation Learning, Behavior Prediction, Reinforcement Learning).
