Role Overview:
We are looking for exceptional talent to join our mapping and localization team. You will play a pivotal role in developing advanced mapping systems that integrate data from diverse sensors and localization algorithms for real-time applications. This position is essential for improving the accuracy and reliability of our self-driving vehicles. You will engage with complex challenges in autonomous navigation, working at the intersection of robotics, computer vision, and machine learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement mapping algorithms to create a scalable and efficient mapping pipeline for high-definition maps.
- Innovate in localization techniques, developing systems that achieve centimeter-level precision through a combination of traditional and cutting-edge sensor fusion methods, including LIDAR, radar, and camera data.
- Optimize simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithms for dynamic environments, ensuring robust performance across varying weather and lighting conditions.
- Lead the creation of tools for map generation, simulation, and testing to enhance the efficiency of our mapping and localization processes.
- Collaborate closely with perception, planning, and control teams to ensure seamless integration of mapping and localization within the autonomous driving framework.
- Evaluate and architect safety and redundancy measures in the localization system.
- Take ownership of key performance metrics, including latency, memory usage, bandwidth, and power consumption.
- Contribute to the company's intellectual property through technical reports, patent applications, and academic publications.
- PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline, with a focus on mapping, localization, or SLAM.
- Expertise in C/C++ and Python, with a strong background in developing high-performance algorithms in a Linux environment.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in research or R&D, with a proven history in autonomous systems, robotics, or computer vision.
- Familiarity with pose estimation, probabilistic filtering, bundle adjustment, non-linear optimization, and handling large-scale 3D data.
- Deep knowledge of SLAM methodologies, point cloud registration, and GNSS/INS systems.
- Hands-on experience with sensor calibration and data fusion techniques, integrating various sensors for vehicle localization.
- Strong understanding of geometric and probabilistic algorithms for mapping and localization, along with awareness of current research trends.
- Experience with robotics software development tools such as ROS and familiarity with machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow or PyTorch.
- A research background in SLAM and/or relevant publications in localization and mapping applications.
