EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN (EMT) ROLE DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to patients, adhering to the established standards of certification.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts thorough pre- and post-inspection checks as mandated by relevant health authorities.
  • Performs detailed visual assessments of the patient compartment for cleanliness and any potential damage.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the patient compartment and all associated equipment.
  • Documents and replaces any damaged or missing items, ensuring compliance with usage reports.
  • Presents the completed Vehicle/Equipment Checklist to the supervising authority.
  • Ensures the ambulance consistently meets all applicable health regulations.
  • Guides fellow EMTs in patient care, driving protocols, and emergency response procedures.
  • Responds to emergency calls with professionalism and within designated timeframes.
  • Provides patient care in accordance with established Basic Life Support Protocols.
  • Secures and manages patient information from transferring facilities.
  • Transports patients using stretchers, ensuring no patient ambulation.
  • Monitors patients closely during transport and documents any changes in their condition.
  • Ensures that patients are delivered to their designated locations without being left unattended.
  • Completes Pre-Hospital Reports accurately and promptly.
  • Handles company documentation and secures necessary signatures for billing.
  • Maintains a professional demeanor and fosters positive interactions with medical facility staff and colleagues.
  • Holds valid certifications in CPR, Bloodborne Pathogens, OSHA, and HazMat.
  • Adheres to the company uniform policy at all times.
  • Complies with all federal and state regulations.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with legal and company policies.
  • Promotes a positive image of the company.
  • Maintains a clean driving record.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a valid and clean driver's license for a minimum of one year.
  • Current certification as an EMT-B.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support CPR from a recognized organization.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to read, write, and interpret basic English, with a strong understanding of simple directives related to job responsibilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This role requires regular communication, frequent movement, and the ability to lift and transport patients weighing over 150 pounds independently and up to 250 pounds with assistance. Vision capabilities must include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The EMT may occasionally work in adverse weather conditions and may be exposed to bloodborne and airborne pathogens, hazardous materials, or challenging situations. The EMT must effectively manage stress while delivering care to patients in critical conditions.
