We are currently seeking a Chief Safety Officer, Campus Operations to spearhead a dedicated team essential to the well-being of our diverse community of students, faculty, and staff. This role will support the Executive Director of Campus Safety and Lab Resources in crafting effective strategies that enhance the Campus Safety division and promote security across our facilities and assets.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Act as primary technical support for the Campus Safety division, including oversight of surveillance systems, access control technologies, and fire safety systems.
  • Conduct maintenance on security infrastructures in collaboration with external security partners.
  • Design and implement creative educational initiatives to raise awareness about safety issues within the University community.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to formulate strategies that improve safety processes, technology integration, and crime prevention initiatives.
  • Oversee disaster preparedness planning for various emergencies, including natural disasters and active shooter scenarios.
  • Analyze incident data and prepare comprehensive reports for Executive Leadership detailing monthly Campus Safety responses.
  • Ensure compliance with Clery Act and Title IX regulations, along with metrics for the annual report.
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating special events, including workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.
  • Manage key control and inventory for all University facilities.
  • Establish partnerships with local law enforcement and emergency services.
  • Develop and revise Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring adherence and reviewing operational activities.
  • Plan and allocate budget for uniforms, equipment, and personnel to maintain efficient operations.
  • Provide on-call support and immediate response to campus-related incidents.
  • Supervise the performance and operations of the Campus Host, Dispatch, and Patrol teams, collaborating with Human Resources on staffing and disciplinary matters.
  • Create training programs for Campus Safety personnel.
  • Assist Human Resources in recruiting for open positions.

Operational Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Perform regular maintenance on security systems with vendor support.
  • Compile and submit weekly, monthly, and annual reports.
  • Manage payroll allocations and ensure compliance with payroll processes.
  • Address and resolve issues related to operational systems.
  • Direct investigations into incidents such as theft, vandalism, and other criminal activities, ensuring proper reporting and coordination with authorities.
  • Provide oversight for the security of all Academy facilities.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stay informed about University policies and provide guidance as needed.
  • Determine staffing requirements for special events.
  • Enhance awareness of safety initiatives within the University community.
  • Maintain and update the Campus Safety Manual and related documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Campus Safety and Lab Resources.

Qualifications:

  • Possess a valid California driver's license and be insurable.
  • Ability to effectively communicate safety policies to a diverse audience.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving skills in challenging situations.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service in all interactions.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Physical capability to walk and stand for extended periods.
  • Must be able to navigate several city blocks as needed.

Compensation:

$70,000 - $90,000 annually based on experience.
