Job Overview

Position Summary

The Welding Engineer plays a vital role in a dynamic and expanding manufacturing organization. The selected individual will leverage their comprehensive expertise in physics, engineering principles, metallurgy, materials science, welding techniques, and industry standards to design, assess, and validate welds, as well as to plan, oversee, and document welding activities in compliance with applicable codes, contracts, or technical drawings.

This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of numerous products that necessitate welding.

Work Environment

Welding engineers operate in a variety of settings, including both office and field environments, which may encompass manufacturing plants, testing laboratories, and supplier locations. Regular visits to suppliers may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The following duties are essential to the role. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed:
  • Develop innovative welding procedures and methodologies.
  • Review and adapt welding specifications as required.
  • Collaborate with the laboratory to create Procedure Qualification Records (PQR).
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of Welding Procedure Specifications and Procedure Qualification Reports.
  • Keep accurate records of Welder Qualifications (WQR) and Continuity logs.
  • Create training materials and instruct other welders on new techniques, processes, or design modifications.
  • Review and allocate Welding Procedure Specifications for various projects.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures and recommendations regarding welding consumables and their handling.
  • Investigate welding-related challenges to enhance product performance and boost productivity.
  • Diagnose welding issues and propose corrective measures (repair plans, etc.).
  • Conduct supplier audits to verify quality, materials, and compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to all customer, company, and industry standards.
  • Analyze engineering designs to determine welding requirements.
  • Engage with customers regarding welding-related concerns.
  • Provide technical assistance to shop personnel.
  • Support other departments on welding matters, assist with audits, participate in root cause analysis, and offer recommendations for inspection and corrective actions.
Qualifications

Educational Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient knowledge of ASME BPVC Section VIII, Division 1, and Section IX.
  • Familiarity with AWS D1.1 standards.
  • Understanding of material strength and ability to perform fundamental engineering strength calculations.
  • Basic knowledge of welding metallurgy and heat treatment processes.
  • Proficient in computer applications including email, record-keeping, database management, word processing, and spreadsheets.
  • Preferred certifications include AWS Certified Welding Inspector and AWS Certified Welding Engineer.
Professional Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in fabrication.
