About The Role
We are in search of a talented and creative Welding Mechanical Engineer to become part of our team. The ideal candidate will bring a combination of welding proficiency and engineering acumen to work on specialized components and hardware for space applications. This position is vital for ensuring the structural integrity and precision of elements designed for space missions, with responsibilities split approximately 70% on welding and 30% on mechanical engineering, subject to project demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute precision welding on space components and hardware, guaranteeing high-quality, defect-free joints through advanced welding techniques, including TIG (GTAW), MIG (GMAW), and other specialized methods.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design, develop, and evaluate space components, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and mission objectives.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to ascertain welding and fabrication requirements.
- Apply engineering principles to analyze and resolve welding-related challenges, enhancing processes and outcomes.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machinery, ensuring optimal performance.
- Conduct inspections of welded joints to confirm adherence to stringent quality standards and compliance with space industry regulations.
- Work with materials commonly utilized in aerospace applications, such as titanium, aluminum, stainless steel, and exotic alloys.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to refine welding and fabrication processes, efficiency, and quality.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; additional technical training or certification in welding is preferred. Consideration will also be given to candidates with extensive experience in lieu of a degree.
- A minimum of 5 years of welding experience, particularly with aerospace or space industry components.
- Expertise in TIG, MIG, and other welding techniques suitable for aerospace-grade materials.
- Understanding and prior experience in mechanical engineering roles beyond welding.
- Strong grasp of welding metallurgy and the properties of materials used in space hardware.
- Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative spirit in a team environment.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations pertaining to welding and space hardware.
Physical Requirements:
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and other typical welding conditions.
- Dexterity and hand-eye coordination necessary for executing precise welding tasks.
