Position Overview

ECS Southwest, LLP is presenting an exceptional opportunity for a skilled Certified Welding Inspector (Specialty Technician I) to become a part of our dynamic workforce. This role involves engaging in various projects that require field assessments and inspections, along with conducting both destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT) on steel materials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Operations: Execute observations, testing, inspections, and sampling of diverse construction materials, such as soils, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel. Carry out tasks as per project specifications under the supervision of senior technicians and project managers, including inspections at fabrication sites.
  • Testing Methodologies: Perform regular evaluations of structural and reinforcing steel, focusing on welded or bolted connections utilizing various techniques and testing apparatus in accordance with industry standards for documentation and compliance.
  • Data Management: Conduct calculations and data analysis based on sampling, test outcomes, and inspections; Engage in drafting and administrative tasks as necessary; Ensure proper organization of field equipment and report any damaged or missing items to the supervisor.
  • Communication Skills: Maintain consistent communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers, keeping the team updated on site conditions and additional testing requests; Participate in project meetings as needed.
  • Professional Development: Undergo training in ECS methodologies for project observations, inspections, and testing; Accurately document findings in line with accepted engineering practices.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Possession or willingness to obtain 2 relevant specialty certifications from recognized industry authorities.
  • Ability to carry heavy loads multiple times daily or occasionally lift up to 85 lbs to waist height.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance are required.
  • Must provide appropriate transportation for job site use, with mileage reimbursement available.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing principles and standards.
  • Good understanding of heavy construction safety practices and procedures.
  • Capability to perform tasks at heights.
  • Proficiency with electronic devices, including phones, tablets, and laptops.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and construction plans.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • If focused on NDE testing, the ability to calibrate NDE equipment is essential.
