Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in implementing established accounting principles, theories, concepts, and practices to support the core financial operations of the University. This position collaborates closely with the Business Office and the Financial Aid finance manager to assess current operational practices and ensure compliance with accounting standards for auditing and internal financial reporting. The Senior Accountant will also identify opportunities for process enhancements across all aspects of the accounting function.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare both standard and non-standard income and balance sheet statements, consolidated financial statements, and various accounting reports.
  • Ensure that daily operations adhere to established accounting principles, policies, and objectives.
  • Analyze financial reports and records, providing recommendations regarding accounting reserves, assets, and expenditures.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of journal entries and accounting classifications assigned to various records.
  • Conduct special studies and propose or develop accounting methods and procedures.
  • Coordinate accounting matters with other departments and divisions.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and generate appropriate journal entries.
  • Oversee accounts payable and payroll accounting functions.
  • Ensure accuracy of accounts receivable balances between Campus Management and financial systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Two to five years of relevant business experience.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience in a proprietary, for-profit business environment is desirable.
  • Knowledge of company policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with Great Plains and Nexus Payables is highly preferred.
