Position Overview: Youth Center Coordinator

Role Summary: The Youth Center Coordinator plays a crucial role in delivering Casa Familiar's services, focusing on the developmental needs of youth aged 6 to 18. This position is essential in creating a supportive and empowering environment for young individuals by designing and executing programs that reflect their changing needs. The coordinator serves as a key connector, promoting engagement and collaboration among the community, Casa Familiar, and vital partners, including educational institutions, non-profit organizations, libraries, and healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engagement and Assessment: Lead an annual survey to assess the needs and aspirations of residents and youth, ensuring program alignment with their interests. Develop a comprehensive monthly activity schedule tailored to youth preferences, including a special event each month to encourage family involvement.
  • Program Development and Facilitation: Create, organize, and implement a variety of youth-focused programs, such as educational trips, academic workshops, leadership training, and hands-on projects, all aimed at nurturing their potential and guiding them toward academic success and higher education opportunities.
  • Educational and Career Support: Provide essential support to students transitioning from secondary education to their chosen academic and career paths, assisting with college applications, scholarship submissions, and resume development.
  • Volunteer Coordination and Community Outreach: Manage the recruitment and supervision of high school volunteers, integrating them into the Youth Center's dynamic environment. Implement outreach strategies to attract and retain participants for the Youth Center's programs. Cultivate productive relationships with school staff to establish a referral system that enhances youth engagement.
  • Reporting and Collaboration: Prepare and submit monthly reports using designated client management software, attendance records, and analytical tools. Actively participate in internal team meetings and contribute to Casa Familiar's broader community events, embodying the spirit of collective growth and development.

Collaboration and Interaction: The Youth Center Coordinator will interact with a diverse group of young participants, ranging from 6 to 18 years old, and collaborate with other Youth Center Coordinators, the Youth and Senior Services Manager, Program Director, and Social Work Interns. This role may also involve occasional collaborative efforts with multiple Property Managers.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Effective task prioritization, with a knack for multi-tasking and problem-solving in dynamic settings.
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish are highly regarded, enhancing communication and outreach efforts.

Educational Background and Professional Experience:

  • Preferred Academic Qualifications: An Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Youth Development or a closely related field, such as Child Development, Education, Social Work, Counseling, or Sociology.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in roles involving direct interaction with youth and/or children.

Mandatory Qualifications and Compliance Requirements:

  • Health and Safety: Submission of a vaccination card demonstrating complete immunization status.
  • Security and Trust: Consent to and pass a comprehensive federal background check, provided at no expense to the candidate.
  • Transportation: Possession of a valid California driver's license, or a commitment to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Community Engagement: All Casa Familiar staff are required to actively participate in at least one community event committee annually.

Professional Development and Training:

  • Onboarding and Skill Enhancement: Training in the use of the client management software system (Salesforce). Certification in First Aid, education in Suicide Prevention, instruction in Trauma-Informed Care, awareness sessions on Domestic Violence, training on Sexual Harassment, and preparation for Emergency Procedures.
