Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Recreation Events Manager to join our team at the City of Augusta GA. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the operations and staff involved in providing special events and activities for our citizens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Event Planning and Coordination: Develop, coordinate, and implement special events, including concerts, festivals, and other activities.
  • Staff Management: Manage, direct, and evaluate assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Venue Management: Promote Consolidated Government venues, build relationships with potential clients and corporate sponsors, recruit events, and coordinate and develop proposals and plans.
  • Event Execution: Coordinate pre-event activities, prepare and distribute documentation, provide event information for publication, and coordinate third-party service contractors.
  • Post-Event Activities: Monitor tear down and clean up after events, conduct assessment and evaluation of events, and prepare reports of assessment to summarize outcome of events.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in event planning or venue management, to include lead or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of management and supervision, recreation administration, program development and implementation.
  • Licensing and Certification: Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history, and CPR and AED certifications.

  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight.
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals.
  • Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature, and noise extremes.
