Project Overview:
The Thacker Pass project represents the largest known lithium resource in the United States.

Upon completion, the facility will generate a significant amount of lithium carbonate, sufficient to power approximately 1 million electric vehicles annually.

As the EPCM contractor for Lithium Americas, we are tasked with overseeing and integrating the efforts of a team of contractors responsible for engineering and constructing the facility. Our procurement efforts involve approximately $1 billion in goods and services, with earthwork already underway and design and procurement of long-lead equipment in progress.

Located in the expansive high desert of north-central Nevada, this project is designed with sustainability in mind, utilizing excess process heat for electricity generation and recycling process water multiple times.


Job Summary:
In this position, you will conduct hydraulic calculations to support the design of pumping systems. You will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, providing essential calculation results that contribute to the team's success.

Your expertise in hydraulic pumping system techniques will enable you to make significant contributions to our projects.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Generate hydraulic calculation reports.
  • Create pump datasheets.
  • Evaluate, select, and apply standard mechanical engineering methods and criteria, exercising independent judgment in adaptations and modifications.
  • Participate in the design, development, modification, and evaluation of hydraulic system components and processes, adhering to relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) and Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to provide technical support in resolving issues during the engineering design phase.

Education and Experience Requirements:
A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) along with relevant experience in hydraulic pump calculations is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Proven experience in performing hydraulic calculations for pump selection.
  • Familiarity with process fluids and water network system hydraulic calculations.
  • Experience with slurry hydraulic systems, particularly non-settling slurries, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel processes and systems is advantageous.
  • Experience with Fluid Flow 3 software is a plus.
  • Ability to effectively interact with other engineering disciplines to gather and provide information.
  • A minimum of 5 years of design engineering experience is required.
