Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Hydraulic Structural Engineer, you will be expected to:
  • Act as a recognized technical authority in structural engineering, addressing complex project challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Dams, Levee, and Civil Works team to outline scopes of work, prepare budget estimates, and execute project analysis work plans.
  • Draft and refine specifications, select materials and their dimensions, and perform essential calculations for various structures, including floodwalls, dams, hydraulic gates, and drainage systems.
  • Support condition assessments for diverse hydraulic structures.
  • Plan and oversee project design activities.
  • Organize and manage the work of a medium to large team of professionals and technicians.
  • Serve as Project Manager for larger initiatives, while project management is not the primary focus of the role.
  • Conduct structural analyses and designs, providing design options or recommendations with supporting calculations.
  • Review structural documents and ensure design coordination across all disciplines.
  • Create design plans, sections, and details as part of multidisciplinary design teams for civil works projects, conducting collaborative design development sessions.
  • Engage in engineering tasks that require innovative thinking to tackle unique design challenges with limited existing guidelines.
  • Independently coordinate the structural design team's efforts throughout the design development and contract documentation phases.
  • Facilitate meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies to ensure code compliance and address comments.
  • Provide structural engineering support during construction, including site observations, inspections, and reviews of submittals and RFIs.
  • Possess knowledge of construction document preparation, including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Work closely with project leads to implement strategies that achieve all project objectives.
  • Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in structural engineering related to building design.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, RAM, ETABS, SAFE, or similar analytical software.
  • Experience in design calculations and layouts.
  • Ability to design and detail in steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Understanding of gravity and lateral analysis.
  • Prior experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
  • A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture.
Preferred
  • Master's degree in Architectural, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience with computer applications in Civil Engineering, including Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation, MathCAD, Risa 3D, MATLAB, Revit, Staad Pro, LS-DYNA, TrueGrid, and SAP2000.
  • At least 5 years of experience in structural engineering analysis and design, focusing on hydraulic structures under USACE and/or FERC criteria.
  • Previous certifications in structural inspection, FERC Part 12, or FHWA Bridge Inspection.
