About the Role

The EHS Manager plays a pivotal role in fostering a safety-oriented culture that is integral to daily operations. This position is responsible for the organization, oversight, and management of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives at the Evonik Production Site. The incumbent will lead a team comprising a Senior Principal Environmental Specialist and a Safety Coordinator. This role provides essential technical guidance and leadership to enhance EHS processes, ensuring compliance with regulations and minimizing risks while meeting plant customer requirements. Effective collaboration with the Site Management Team is crucial for success. The EHS Manager must possess strong communication and coordination skills to engage with various stakeholders, including the Site Head and support functions such as Quality, Production, Supply Chain, R&D, Continuous Improvement, Engineering, and Maintenance, as well as external partners in Procurement, Controlling, Sales & Marketing, and Auditing.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental, Health, and Safety
  • Champion the development of a safety culture where every individual values safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with all EHS policies by employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Oversee Industrial Hygiene initiatives.
  • Guarantee adherence to federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including OSHA PSM, RMP, RC 14001, ACC, and EPA Clean Air Act Title V.
  • Conduct root cause analyses for incidents and ensure reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Manage hazardous waste compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to PSM procedures.
  • Guarantee timely submission of all required reports.
  • Ensure HAZWOPER Technician training for all relevant employees.
Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure that all safety, environmental, health, and security protocols are followed to maintain safe production practices.
  • Identify root causes for deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Spot opportunities for enhancements and drive initiatives, particularly in waste reduction.
  • Foster a culture of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
People Development
  • Promote a positive workplace environment characterized by respect, trust, accountability, and open communication.
  • Ensure proper training for the Environmental and Safety Coordinator roles.
  • Manage recruitment for necessary replacements.
  • Uphold adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate timely completion of annual performance reviews.
Security Management
  • Lead and oversee the site security program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Proficient in safety leadership, team management, technical and analytical skills, SAP, and general computer applications.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in Safety, Environmental, or Engineering roles within the chemical manufacturing sector.
  • Previous managerial experience is preferred.
