The EHS Manager plays a pivotal role in fostering a safety-oriented culture that is ingrained in the daily operations of all team members. This role is responsible for the organization, oversight, and management of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) protocols at the Evonik Production Site. The incumbent will supervise a Senior Principal Environmental Specialist and a Safety Coordinator, providing technical guidance, expertise, and leadership to enhance EHS processes, minimize risks, and ensure compliance with regulations to meet plant and customer requirements. Collaboration with other members of the Site Management Team is essential. The EHS Manager must possess strong communication and coordination skills to engage effectively with the Site Head and various site support functions, including Quality, Production, Supply Chain, R&D, Continuous Improvement, Engineering, and Maintenance, as well as external departments such as Procurement, Controlling, Sales & Marketing, and Auditing.

Key Responsibilities

Environmental, Health, and Safety
  • Champion the development of a safety culture where every individual values safe work practices.
  • Ensure adherence to all EHS policies by employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Oversee Industrial Hygiene initiatives.
  • Guarantee compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for all necessary incidents and ensure reporting obligations are fulfilled.
  • Manage hazardous waste compliance.
  • Ensure adherence to Process Safety Management (PSM) procedures.
  • Guarantee timely submission of all required reports.
  • Ensure HAZWOPER Technician training for all relevant employees.
Continuous Improvement
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, health, and security procedures to facilitate safe production operations.
  • Identify root causes for discrepancies and develop actionable solutions.
  • Spot opportunities for enhancements and lead implementation efforts, particularly in waste reduction.
  • Promote a Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) culture within the team.
People Development
  • Encourage a positive workplace characterized by mutual respect, trust, accountability, and open communication.
  • Ensure appropriate training for the Environmental and Safety Coordinator.
  • Facilitate the recruitment of replacements as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and procedures by all employees.
  • Oversee the completion of annual performance reviews as required.
Security Management
  • Lead and manage the site security program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field is required.
  • Proficient in various areas including safety leadership, team management, technical and analytical skills, SAP, and environmental regulations.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in safety, environmental, or engineering roles within the chemical manufacturing sector.
  • Previous managerial experience is preferred.
