Position Overview:

The role involves collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams and academic faculty on significant projects focused on bacterial and viral studies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in the culture and quantification of both pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganisms, including SARS-COV-2 and M. Tuberculosis, within BSL3 laboratory environments.
  • Conduct detailed Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) assessments and perform DNA/RNA extractions from various pathogens, followed by comprehensive data analysis.
  • Contribute to the development and validation of innovative assays.
  • Prepare and manage Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) applications, including renewals and submissions.
  • Design and implement animal study protocols for grant proposals.
  • Utilize animal models to study various viral infections.

Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in a scientific discipline with relevant research experience, or a Bachelor's degree coupled with practical experience in laboratory management and animal infection studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in the field of infectious diseases and proficiency in handling BSL3 pathogens.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with biological safety protocols and NIH/CDC regulations is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, sit, walk, communicate, and hear. Capability to lift objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment:

Position operates within Animal Bio-Safety Level 3 and Biosafety Level 3 laboratories.

Special Conditions:

Successful enrollment and clearance are mandatory as per federal regulations and institutional policies regarding Tier 1 Select Agents.
