Job Title: Per Diem Sleep Technician- Pediatrics Sleep Study Lab

Job Summary:

The Per Diem Sleep Technician will perform all types of sleep disorder testing, including set-up and performance of nocturnal polysomnograms (PSGs) on all age groups. The successful candidate will demonstrate a working knowledge of polysomnography, Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), oximetry, and administration of supplemental O2, Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP and/or BPAP) studies, and the basics of Sleep Medicine. The ideal candidate will also possess excellent organizational, computer, interpersonal, and technical skills to complete quality studies in a timely and accurate manner.

Responsibilities:
  • Gathers and analyzes patient information, including reviewing history, physical information, medications, procedure request, and study protocol.
  • Completes and verifies documentation, assists in explaining the procedure and orienting the patient to the sleep center, and attempts to locate no-shows and fill unexpected openings using the Stand-By Waiting List.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment required for testing, applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards and protocol, and performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments, if necessary.
  • Follows procedural protocols for diagnostic polysomnography (NPSG), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), PAP and oxygen titration, etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data.
  • Documents routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events to facilitate coring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
  • Implements appropriate interventions, including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc.
  • Follows "lights on" procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process.
Requirements:
  • High school graduate/GED, with at least 6 months of experience as a polysomnographic technician OR successful completion of a polysomnography program, of no less than one year duration, associated with a state licensed and/or a nationally accredited educational facility.
  • None if successfully completed a polysomnographic technician program, otherwise a minimum of 6 months experience.
