Construction Operations Manager

Role Summary:
The Superintendent plays a crucial role in managing field operations across various projects, ensuring that multiple teams and scopes of work are completed efficiently and profitably. This position involves daily collaboration with the General Foreman and Foreman to tackle challenges, make informed decisions, and facilitate effective communication to guarantee that all work is conducted safely and optimally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Safety Manager and Senior Project Manager to foster a proactive safety culture on-site:
- Ensure all safety training and documentation are completed before project initiation.
- Conduct Weekly Toolbox Safety Meetings and regular safety inspections to ensure compliance with safety guidelines.
- Address unsafe conditions and incidents promptly, implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies and procedures.
- Develop and execute Safety and Work Plans for significant tasks, including Building Outages and Crane operations.
- Support the creation of General Conditions and Requirements prior to contract execution, particularly for retrofit projects.
- Engage in pre-design site surveys and design reviews, providing insights on constructability and safety.
- Participate in Pre-Mobilization Meetings to ensure that all project designs and plans are accurate and high-quality.
- Conduct pre-mobilization site walks to identify potential issues that could affect project execution.
- Oversee project start-up and pre-planning activities with the Project Foreman.
- Work with the Procurement Manager to forecast procurement needs and maintain visibility on equipment and material availability.
- Monitor timecard entries and reporting by field employees, ensuring accuracy and resolving issues with the Payroll Department.
- Coordinate with the Labor Compliance department to meet labor requirements across all projects.
- Provide leadership and training to field teams, ensuring high-quality workmanship and the adoption of innovative methods.
- Assist the General Foreman in the timely creation of the Field Labor Tracker spreadsheet.
- Coordinate with clients, General Contractors, and subcontractors to ensure timely completion of critical path activities.
- Identify and address changes to work conditions that may impact costs or schedules.
- Keep the Project Manager and Engineering team informed of any field changes and prepare for necessary resubmissions.
- Lead weekly reviews of labor hours and production rates, addressing any discrepancies promptly.
- Monitor material and equipment usage against budgets, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
- Ensure that the Foreman has all necessary documentation and that as-built drawings are up to date.
- Develop and maintain execution plans throughout project durations to ensure adherence to schedules.
- Conduct routine jobsite meetings to review project status and coordinate with subcontractors.
- Confirm the completion of pre-commissioning reports and coordinate inspections to facilitate project progress.
- Maintain an understanding of manpower needs to assist in workforce planning.
- Participate in post-project reviews to share insights and improve future project execution.
Team Development and Culture:
- Promote the core values of Cal Solar and demonstrate these values in all interactions.
- Encourage open communication and knowledge sharing among employees to foster a learning environment.
- Continuously evaluate construction processes and share best practices to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Support the Field Training Manager in promoting high-quality standards and employee accountability.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including governing agencies and subcontractors.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial/industrial solar construction.
- Strong understanding of construction management principles.
- Familiarity with relevant electrical and plumbing codes.
- Experience with grid-tied PV systems and related technologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
- Bilingual skills (English-Spanish) are preferred.
- Willingness to travel as required.
