Role Summary

The Quantitative Modeling Analyst I plays a crucial role in identifying, assessing, monitoring, and managing the risks associated with complex and strategically significant models. These models may include those utilized in areas such as Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Asset/Liability Management, Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL), Market Risk, pricing strategies, profitability assessments, regulatory capital calculations, underwriting processes, fraud detection, and fair lending practices. The role requires a deep understanding of the theoretical foundations of models, including their assumptions and limitations, as well as the business context in which decisions are made. The analyst must also be proficient in advanced analytical techniques, variable selection, model development, and the interdependencies among data, systems, processes, and external models.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent model validation to ensure models function as intended and that their reliability is well understood.
  • Establish strong working relationships with model owners and users to gain a comprehensive understanding of the business rationale and assumptions behind model development.
  • Evaluate the potential impacts of model limitations, parameter estimation errors, and deviations from assumptions, comparing model outputs with empirical benchmarks.
  • Assist in formulating remediation plans when model outputs do not meet established objectives.
  • Prepare clear and concise communications regarding model analyses, highlighting discrepancies, risk identification, and regulatory or policy concerns.
  • Present findings to senior management, developers, and users, making recommendations for action plans and tracking remediation efforts.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for external regulators and internal auditors regarding assigned models, demonstrating the operational integrity of the model risk management program.
Qualifications

Advanced degree (Master's or higher) in Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Finance, STEM, or a related quantitative field; relevant professional designations such as CFA, FRM, CPA, CIA, or CISA are also considered.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of extensive quantitative analysis experience in financial risk management, including statistical/econometric analysis, predictive modeling, prepayment analysis, option pricing, sensitivity analysis, and stress testing.
  • Proficiency in statistical and programming software (R, SAS, Python, SQL, VBA, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of model performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of model development and validation methodologies and processes.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to produce high-quality technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements related to model risk management.
