The Chief of Student Engagement plays a pivotal role in the conception and execution of dynamic social, educational, cultural, and developmental initiatives that promote both individual and community growth. This position aims to cultivate an environment where students can connect, engage, and invest in the Augsburg community. The role also focuses on enhancing the experience of incoming first-year and transfer students through exceptional transitional programs and leadership education.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the Student Engagement department.
- Establish strategic priorities that align with the overarching goals of Academic and Student Affairs as well as the University.
- Design and implement programs that positively influence student transition, leadership, and overall well-being.
- Provide guidance and supervision to the Student Engagement assistant director, student veteran representative, student paraprofessionals, student workers, and graduate student interns as necessary.
- Advise the Augsburg Day Student Government.
- Develop and facilitate comprehensive student leadership programming, including initiatives such as the Emerging Leaders Program and Student Leadership Development courses.
- Encourage student organizations to engage in self-directed activities that foster personal growth and self-discovery.
- Promote and support diversity, equity, and inclusion within student programming.
- Ensure that students and organizations are well-informed about institutional policies and procedures relevant to their events and activities.
- Design, implement, and manage the daily operations of undergraduate orientation programs, collaborating with various offices and departments.
- Oversee military and veteran support services, including the management of the student veterans lounge and related programming.
- Develop and manage budgets for various student activities and programs.
- Coordinate services and support for commuter students.
- Evaluate departmental programs to assess their effectiveness in relation to student learning outcomes and satisfaction.
- Act as a general advisor to student organizations.
- Plan and execute recognition events for student and organizational leadership.
- Support Act Six Scholars in their leadership and mentoring endeavors.
- Assist the Augsburg Student Activities Council in program implementation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
The typical work environment is an office setting, involving sedentary work for extended periods. Regular use of phones and computers is required, along with the possibility of working long or irregular hours, including nights and weekends. The role may involve working under pressure during peak times of the academic year, such as orientation and homecoming.
Physical demands may include standing for extended periods during events, working in varying temperature conditions, and occasional travel for conferences and program materials. Lifting and carrying of materials up to 50 lbs may be necessary for program setup.
