About the Job

The University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts is seeking a highly skilled Chief Financial Officer to join its leadership team. As a key member of the Dean's Group, the CFO will play a crucial role in developing and implementing financial strategies that support the college's academic goals.

The successful candidate will oversee budget planning, fiscal administration, and space management, providing financial guidance to leadership and contributing to curriculum, HR, development, and outreach decisions. The CFO will lead the CLA Fiscal team, which includes direct reports such as financial managers, staff accountants, and a budget director.

The starting salary range is $160,000-$185,000 annually.

Job Responsibilities
  • Financial Strategy and Planning: Develop, implement, and assess the college's short- and long-term financial strategies, analyzing and interpreting financial data to inform decision-making.
  • Financial Modeling and Analysis: Conduct financial modeling and assessments to identify trends and changes in resources and expenditures, providing creative and proactive financial guidance to senior leadership.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with CLA Human Resources' leadership to align fiscal and HR strategies, ensuring the effective use of resources.
  • Problem-Solving and Innovation: Identify and develop solutions for complex and systemic fiscal issues, fostering a workplace environment that promotes collaboration and innovation.
Financial Administration
  • Budget Planning and Management: Work with the Dean and other collegiate leaders on the collegiate budget and planning process, preparing the annual budget and allocating resources to CLA units.
  • Fiscal Management and Oversight: Oversee the CLA Financial Service team responsible for various areas within the fiscal administration unit, developing and implementing sound financial management policies and procedures.
  • Education and Development: Deliver proactive education, development, consultation, and service to department chairs and directors concerning best practices regarding budget management and planning.
  • Continuous Improvement: Lead annual evaluation and continuous improvement of CLA financial operations and performance.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree plus 12 years of fiscal and management experience, including leading an organization in the development and implementation of its financial strategies and overseeing an organization's fiscal administration and budget.
  • Supervisory Experience: Supervisory experience, with a proven track record of leading a team and making strategic decisions.
  • Financial Skills and Knowledge: Excellent computer skills, including experience working within electronic financial systems, and a strong understanding of financial management principles and practices.
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, organization, collaboration, supervision, and conflict resolution.
