Job Title: Chief of Staff

The University of Minnesota seeks a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Staff to support the Director of the School of Music. This is a 100% position that reports to the Director and is responsible for providing administrative oversight and support to the school's academic, professional, and community-driven mission.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic planning and administrative support to the Director, including developing and implementing policies and procedures, managing budgets, and overseeing staff.
  • Serve as the primary unit expert and resource for the Director, faculty, and staff on University and College policies and procedures.
  • Manage the School's financial, human, and facilities resources, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee Student Services operations, including curriculum planning, instructional resource projections, and enrollment and cost reports.
  • Coordinate data collection for responding to internal and external surveys, and partner with the Director to develop external communication strategies, priorities, and messages.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of experience and prior oversight of a small department or cross-disciplinary team within a large and complex institution.
  • Experience supervising staff, managing budgets, and providing financial oversight.
  • Project management experience and ability to coordinate multiple projects and priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with faculty, staff, students, and administrators at a higher education institution, with a working knowledge of the academic fields of music or related disciplines.
