Position Overview

The Principal Mechanical Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in guiding the technical design aspects of projects, serving as a subject matter expert, mentor, and resource for the engineering team. This role is responsible for delegating, leading, and directing the efforts of Project Engineers and Designers. The engineer will conceptualize, implement, and ensure quality throughout the design phases to align with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees the technical project workflow and scope of work within their discipline; reviews timelines and allocated hours; identifies and resolves discrepancies in collaboration with project management.
  • Assigns tasks to project engineers and designers within their discipline as necessary.
  • Adheres to quality management protocols; conducts project evaluations and approvals prior to all QA/QC assessments performed by the technical authority.
  • Maintains robust client relationships; capable of understanding and communicating project and design requirements, progress, and troubleshooting to clients and technical teams.
  • Coordinates effectively with all disciplines to ensure comprehensive integration of work and client requests into the design.
  • Acts as a supervisor and resource for the technical design team; supports and fosters staff education and professional development.
  • Engages actively in the engineering and professional community to enhance personal knowledge and career growth (e.g., attending meetings, seminars, conferences, and/or authoring articles for industry publications).
Qualifications

Capabilities and Credentials
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices within their discipline, along with a foundational understanding of other disciplines.
  • Skilled in conceptualizing and developing solutions for complex systems and interactions among diverse components.
  • Effective communicator who clearly conveys scope, schedule, and budget to clients, colleagues, and technical teams (e.g., work plans, statements of work, and two-way communication).
  • Proficient in drafting detailed reports, business correspondence, and procedural documentation.
  • Adept at analyzing, problem-solving, and mentoring others; organized, detail-oriented, flexible, and collaborative.
  • Capable of independently resolving intricate issues within the engineering discipline.
Education and Experience
  • Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license or other professional certification based on expertise is required.
  • Experience in data center projects is essential.
