Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Pharmacy Clinical Operations Manager is tasked with the design, implementation, and oversight of pharmacy clinical initiatives. This encompasses formulary management, policy formulation, and educational outreach across the healthcare landscape. The Clinical Operations Manager will also assist in pharmacy management during the absence of the Pharmacy Director or designated representative.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Accurately interprets and processes medication orders into the pharmacy information system.
  • Efficiently compounds and dispenses medications.
  • Adheres to facility policies and regulatory standards.
  • Monitors drug therapy for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness of therapy.
  • Provides clinical advice and clarification to healthcare providers, suggesting cost-effective therapeutic alternatives as necessary.
  • Maintains the hospital formulary, reducing non-formulary purchases, and promotes rational drug therapy choices.
  • Participates in daily multidisciplinary rounds as needed.
  • Conducts drug utilization reviews to promote effective therapy and formulates action plans based on findings.
  • Delivers accurate and timely medication information to healthcare staff and patients.
  • Develops and oversees pharmacy clinical programs such as drug consultations, nutrition support, pharmacokinetics, anticoagulation monitoring, pain management, and renal dosing.
  • Manages and mentors the antimicrobial stewardship program.

Education & Experience:

  • B.S. or Pharm D. from an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy - Required.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited institution - Preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year as a Pharmacy Clinical/Operations Specialist - Required.
  • At least 5 years of hospital pharmacy experience - Required.
  • Completion of a hospital PGY2/pharmacy specialty residency or fellowship - Preferred.
  • Specialty BCPS certification - Preferred.
  • Other certifications (e.g., FCCP, FASHP) - Preferred.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy management - Preferred.
  • Proficient in basic mathematical calculations and financial reconciliations - Required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Meditech, Business Objects, and purchasing applications - Required.

Licenses, Certifications, & Training:

  • ACLS certification - Preferred.
  • Active Pharmacist license in good standing with the appropriate State Board of Pharmacy - Required.
  • Active Pharmacy Consultant license or equivalent as per State requirements - Required.
