POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lincoln Park Zoological Society, a distinguished privately-managed free zoo, is dedicated to fostering a world where nature and wildlife flourish amidst urban development. The Chief of Board Engagement will oversee a team of three and will play a pivotal role in enhancing the involvement and initiatives of the zoo's Board of Trustees. This position will also focus on positioning the Women's Board and Auxiliary Board for substantial growth in fundraising and community participation. We seek an experienced, collaborative, and team-oriented leader in development who will nurture a dynamic board culture, ensure effective governance practices, and provide exemplary support to the zoo's chief volunteers and major benefactors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Board of Trustees

  • Collaborate closely with the Board Chair, Vice President of Development, CEO, and CFO to formulate and execute board engagement strategies.
  • Manage board meetings, committee structures, orientation processes, travel arrangements, and annual Trustee self-assessments.
  • Assist in the Board Annual Fund alongside the Director of Annual Giving and engage Trustees in forthcoming fundraising campaigns.
  • Partner with the Vice President of Development to lead the Nominating and Development committees.

Women's Board and Auxiliary Board

  • Drive the modernization and fundraising success of the Women's Board and Auxiliary Boards.
  • Enhance Zoo Ball, the zoo's premier fundraising event organized by the Women's Board, including the solicitation of top sponsors.
  • Re-envision the Women Supporting Wildlife event as a mission-focused civic gathering, a fundraising luncheon hosted by the Women's Board to honor women in conservation and wildlife science.
  • Position the Auxiliary Board for future growth and impact, including evaluating the board's fundraising events.
  • Develop and implement contemporary, relevant, and efficient board identities and practices, including meetings, committee structures, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Support individual fundraising strategies in collaboration with board members and the Leadership and Individual Giving team.

General Duties

  • Engage regularly with the Board Chair, CEO, CFO, and senior staff.
  • Conduct daily external interactions with Trustees and key donors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Outstanding communication and writing abilities.
  • Proficient in business English communication.
  • Comprehensive understanding of office practices, procedures, and equipment, with the ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, SharePoint).
  • Familiarity with Outlook, Raiser's Edge, and/or Salesforce (fundraising software); design software knowledge is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, exercising sound judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to interact courteously and respectfully with supervisors, colleagues, volunteers, zoo visitors, and the general public.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years of experience in board relations or fundraising within a mission-driven organization.
  • Experience in managing staff.
  • Non-profit or museum/zoo experience is advantageous.
  • Note: A comparable combination of education, experience, or training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may qualify an individual.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in an open office environment.
  • Ability to navigate zoo grounds for tours, visitor greetings, and meeting coordination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Availability to work special events that may occur outside of regular hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays, as needed.

Salary: $90k-110k annually
