The West Central Association Chamber of Commerce (WCA) is seeking an individual who embodies a forward-thinking vision. Established in 1918, our chamber is dedicated to promoting the success of our diverse membership, which includes a wide array of businesses, institutions, and organizations throughout some of Chicago's most dynamic neighborhoods.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive officer of the WCA, responsible for steering the organization, executing strategic initiatives, and overseeing daily operations. We are in search of a proactive, collaborative, and organized strategic thinker who is committed to fostering business growth and advancing the WCA's mission to be the premier community organization in its service area. This full-time role reports directly to the Board President and Board of Directors, and collaborates with various committees that align with our mission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Visionary Leadership: Formulate and implement strategic plans, provide inspirational leadership, and represent the WCA to stakeholders, media, and the broader community.
- Membership and Revenue Expansion: Drive substantial revenue growth through donations, events, memberships, grants, and other funding avenues. Cultivate and retain a robust member base.
- Team Development: Build and inspire a high-performing team, demonstrating leadership that motivates staff, the Board, and the community.
- Program and Event Coordination: Design, implement, and assess programs and events that align with the WCA's mission. Create initiatives that empower members to succeed.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the organization’s financial health, daily operations, staff management, and compliance with regulations.
- Advocacy and Public Policy Engagement: Represent the business community on local, state, and federal matters, influencing public policy that impacts the business landscape. Act as a liaison and spokesperson to governmental agencies and officials.
- Collaborative Governance: Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities and facilitate effective interaction between management and the Board. Engage actively with other industry associations and community organizations.
- Commitment to Equality: Ensure that principles of equal opportunity are upheld throughout the WCA's operations.
Qualifications:
- Leadership Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a chamber or similar organization, or 10+ years in for-profit sectors with experience on chamber/non-profit boards.
- Local Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Chicago's business landscape and economic development challenges, along with strong senior-level connections.
- Results-Driven: Proven success in achieving strategic objectives, revenue goals, and financial targets.
- Business Development Skills: Experience in securing sponsorships and diverse revenue streams, with an understanding of community development and political affairs.
- Influential Communication: Exceptional communication and advocacy skills to build consensus among stakeholders.
- Team Leadership: Demonstrated ability to cultivate and lead high-performing teams, inspiring both staff and the community.
- Community Engagement: Ability to establish a strong public reputation for the WCA.
- Passion for Community: A genuine enthusiasm for the West Central area.
- Integrity: Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Chair, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors to ensure ethical and efficient operations.
- Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
