Position Overview:
The Deputy Chief of Teaching & Learning, Instruction and Program Supports will assist the Chief Teaching & Learning Officer in formulating a comprehensive, research-informed strategy for school assistance. This role will oversee the creation, execution, and assessment of the district's universal professional development, support for new educators, and the vision for distributed leadership, while also establishing new frameworks for grading consistency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the execution and ongoing enhancement of the universal professional development plan to drive significant, measurable improvements in educator performance and student outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Chief T&L Officer to provide robust strategic direction and leadership across various Teaching & Learning sectors, including:
- Advanced Learning and Specialty Programs
- Distributed Leadership
- Instructional Systems and Supports
- New Educator Induction & Mentoring
- Professional Development
- Student Engagement & Voice
- Guide, mentor, and assess direct reporting department heads.
- Provide clear leadership and strategic direction regarding expectations for universal professional development, distributed leadership frameworks, and new educator support.
- Regularly offer feedback on individual, team, and departmental progress.
- Exemplify a growth mindset, effective collaboration, data-driven decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Ensure clear communication of expectations to department leaders; maintain high accountability levels concerning progress toward established goals.
- Assist the Chief T&L Officer in driving the annual strategic planning and continuous improvement cycle for the Office of T&L.
- Collaborate with the Chief Officer and T&L Department heads to develop and refine strategic plans, including clear objectives, implementation strategies, and outcome measures for each department, ensuring alignment across departments.
- Oversee and facilitate continuous improvement sessions aligned with strategic priorities for all T&L departments.
- Partner with the Office of Network Support leadership to identify and coordinate differentiated academic support based on essential data.
- Assist the Chief T&L Officer in managing operational tasks and processes, including representation at Board Briefings and preparation of materials for Board members on key initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with T&L's assigned central office Budget Analyst to develop, administer, and monitor annual budgets aligned with strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with Talent Office representatives to facilitate effective hiring and staff support.
- Support the work of content teams and leadership in planning large-scale, district-wide events.
- Develop strategic relationships with stakeholders beyond the Office of T&L to communicate priorities and engage in dialogue regarding the effectiveness of T&L initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Master's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid teaching certification issued by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) with relevant endorsements is required.
- Doctor of Education (EdD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in a related field is strongly preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in education, including:
- At least five (5) years of formal leadership experience managing a team within a complex educational organization.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience as a school principal.
- Classroom teaching experience, including curriculum design, assessment development, and student performance analysis.
- Experience in developing differentiated instructional strategies and leading professional learning experiences for teacher leaders.

- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the capacity to connect with diverse audiences.

- Ability to analyze data, define problems, and outline actionable conclusions.
Conditions of Employment:
As a condition of employment with Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency: Employees must reside within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment.
