Overview

Orr Group is in search of an inspiring leader to take on the role of Chief Advancement Officer. This position is crucial in guiding the future of the organization by spearheading a comprehensive advancement strategy that emphasizes fostering a culture of innovation and philanthropy.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Advancement Officer will be a key member of the executive leadership team, responsible for the strategic planning, cultivation, and execution of all fundraising initiatives, alumni and stakeholder relations, and campaign management efforts. This role also involves advising the CEO on all matters related to advancement, including board engagement, alumni relations, and donor stewardship.

The Chief Advancement Officer will collaborate closely with the CEO, senior leadership, academic deans, and various committees to craft compelling narratives and value propositions that highlight the organization's growth trajectory, thereby attracting philanthropic support.

The ideal candidate will be innovative, strategic, entrepreneurial, and adaptable, capable of navigating shifting priorities and challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Strategy:
Provide visionary leadership to the advancement team, nurturing a culture of collaboration, innovation, and high performance. Mentor and develop a high-performing team.

Establish a fundraising strategy that aligns with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic objectives, while supporting other administrative leaders and committees through effective communication and marketing initiatives.

Fundraising and Advancement:
Oversee the advancement goals by driving fundraising efforts for capital campaigns, major gifts, alumni relations, and donor stewardship across the organization.

The Chief Advancement Officer will play a pivotal role in building innovative networks essential for achieving significant fundraising milestones and enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation. This includes cultivating relationships with major donors, alumni, corporate partners, and other key stakeholders.

Manage the advancement budget effectively, monitor progress on initiatives, and ensure a strong return on investment.

Support the CEO's communication and travel needs for national and international alumni and philanthropic prospects, along with other duties as assigned by the CEO.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred);
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in advancement, fundraising, and alumni relations;
  • Five to ten years of senior-level leadership and management experience, preferably in a higher education or sophisticated non-profit environment;
  • Proven track record of achieving fundraising goals;
  • Experience leading and managing comprehensive campaigns;
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion;
  • Demonstrated strategic and creative thinking with a results-oriented, collaborative approach;
  • Ability to provide leadership in a decentralized environment;
  • Proven success in developing and implementing diverse communications for alumni;
  • Effective communication skills for engaging with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Exceptional relationship management skills;
  • High degree of personal initiative and strong interpersonal skills.

Additional Information
The Chief Advancement Officer will operate on a hybrid schedule, balancing time between in-office and remote work. Occasional off-site events to engage with donors, alumni, and trustees will be required, along with travel commitments of approximately 20% of the time.
