Denver, Colorado, United States Blue Origin Full time
Position Overview:

At Blue Origin, we are committed to the vision of expanding human presence in space for the benefit of Earth. Our focus is on creating reusable, safe, and cost-effective space vehicles and systems within a framework of safety, collaboration, and inclusivity.

This role is integral to the Lunar Permanence division, responsible for the development of the Blue Moon lander product lines.

To support our mission of enabling human habitation and work in space, we are constructing sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

As a key member of a dedicated team of engineers, you will spearhead the definition and validation of the Blue Moon MK1 Lander's Lunar Orbit, De-Orbit, Descent, and Landing (DDL), and Surface Phases as part of the Mission Analysis team.

Your responsibilities will encompass defining, analyzing, and validating mission activities throughout these phases, developing the Concept of Operations (CONOPS), conducting system-level trades, and mentoring fellow engineers involved in related analyses.

You will collaborate closely with the vehicle simulation team, Integrated Product Teams, and mission operations, while applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies, and participating in risk and decision boards to ensure the successful demonstration of Blue Origin's inaugural lunar lander.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Own and maintain the CONOPS and mission activities for lunar orbit, DDL, and lunar surface phases, including the application of MBSE-based mission models and oversight of technical resource budgets.
  • Oversee and engage in phase-specific Verification and Validation (V&V) activities, including hardware testing and vehicle simulations.
  • Evaluate and analyze vehicle simulation results, test reports, and other analytical outputs.
  • Identify and address potential risks or issues encountered during system integration and testing.
  • Collaborate with the mission operations team to ensure the effective translation of the CONOPS into operational procedures, flight rules, and mission planning.
  • Generate, decompose, and review tasks and initiatives for other engineers on the Mission Analysis team or supporting Integrated Product Teams, while providing training and mentorship.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • B.S. or M.S. in aerospace engineering or a related discipline.
  • 6+ years of experience in space missions, particularly in late development cycles.
  • Direct experience in systems engineering with a fundamental understanding of all major subsystems of robotic spacecraft.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Direct experience with planetary landers and/or vehicles operating in the lunar environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC), including vehicle simulations and interplanetary trajectory design.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft propulsion systems, particularly cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Proven track record of managing spacecraft resources and resolving complex, high-impact multidisciplinary design challenges.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing.
  • Subject matter expertise in spacecraft thermal, communications, CDH/flight software, and/or mechanisms.
  • Experience in mission operations.
Compensation:

The compensation range varies by location, with specific ranges provided for California, Colorado, and Washington applicants. Other site ranges may differ.

Inclusivity Statement:

At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace. If you are excited about this role but your experience does not align perfectly with every desired qualification, we encourage you to apply anyway.

Benefits:

Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, a 401(k) plan with company match, and an Education Support Program.

Paid Time Off includes up to four weeks per year based on scheduled hours, along with up to 14 company-paid holidays.

Discretionary bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions and allow employees to share in company results.

Equal Employment Opportunity:

Blue Origin is proud to be an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer, committed to attracting, retaining, and developing a highly qualified, diverse workforce.
