Role Summary: This position is integral to the Lunar Permanence mission operations, responsible for crafting the systems and protocols that underpin our various Blue Moon lander offerings. Our goal is to establish a sustainable infrastructure that facilitates the transportation of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and uphold Mission Operations/Mission Systems focused Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs) and Failure Modes, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECAs).
  • Generate and enhance associated Hazard Reports, ensuring operational content is precise and comprehensive.
  • Collaborate with Human Integration to devise effective operational controls that address findings from Human Error Analysis.
  • Partner with Safety teams to establish operational controls in response to hazard analyses when design mitigation is unfeasible.
  • Guarantee that Operational Safety controls are integrated into Mission Operations/Mission Systems products, including procedures, telemetry displays, handbooks, and operational data files.
  • Utilize software and hardware simulators to validate operational products.
  • Engage with ground and flight software teams to propose safety-related enhancements that optimize operational efficiency.
  • Work alongside system and subsystem engineers to recommend safety-driven design improvements and operational methodologies for lunar spacecraft.
  • Support mission operations during lunar vehicle flights, which may require flexibility in working hours.
  • Assist in the investigation and resolution of in-flight anomalies.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Experience in safety analysis and operational controls aimed at hazard reduction.
  • Understanding of spacecraft systems and subsystems.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety practices.
  • Proactive in enhancing existing systems, processes, and documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to foster trust and maintain professional relationships, contributing to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in human spaceflight operations.
  • Familiarity with NASA and industry safety practices.
  • Previous roles as a spacecraft operator or flight controller, including console or control room experience.
