Position Title:
Lecturer for Oakes Elective Courses

Salary Range:
Compensation varies based on course credit, typically ranging from one to five credits. A standard five-credit course may offer a salary between $8,282 and $14,100, depending on salary points. Please refer to the UCSC Salary Scales for detailed information on the Non-senate Instructional (NSI) Unit 18 Pre-six Lecturer Academic Year scale. Adjustments to compensation may occur based on Instructional Workload Credit (IWC) valuation and course salary.

Percent Time:
Variable, contingent upon assigned course load.

Anticipated Start:
Appointments depend on the instructional needs of the hiring unit and available funding.

Position Duration:
Appointments are generally made for one or more quarters during the academic year, including fall, winter, and spring, with potential opportunities during Summer Session.

Position Description:
Oakes College at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) is seeking applications for a continuous pool of lecturers to teach seminar-style courses designed to enhance the college experience. These courses align with the college's commitment to ethnic studies and the sciences through a social justice lens.

Applicants should possess expertise in one or more major disciplinary areas, including arts, engineering, humanities, physical and biological sciences, and social sciences. We particularly welcome candidates with professional experience in social justice or public service organizations, prior teaching experience in higher education, and/or a terminal degree in their field.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
Applicants must hold an M.A./M.S. degree, or a B.A./B.S. degree with at least one year of a Ph.D. program, or a B.A./B.S. degree with a minimum of two years of college-level teaching experience. Equivalent foreign degrees will be considered.

Experience in providing instruction in an educational setting is essential.
