Job Summary

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of California, Santa Cruz invites applications for an ongoing pool of qualified lecturers who may be appointed to teach various lower and upper division undergraduate courses.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach lower division courses designed mainly for non-science majors, utilizing standard texts and/or readers.
  • Teach upper division courses designed for undergraduate Physics (astrophysics) majors and minors, covering topics such as introductory astronomy, the solar system, stellar structure and evolution, planets, high energy astrophysics, extragalactic astronomy, cosmology, and observational methods.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to engage students and promote academic excellence.
  • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement curriculum and instructional materials.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. or equivalent foreign degree in astronomy, astrophysics, or a related field.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Ability to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through teaching and other assigned duties.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven undergraduate teaching skills and/or experience as an independent instructor at the post-secondary level.
  • Special attention will be given to those with experience in teaching astronomy and astrophysics courses.
