Lecturer in Community Studies Program

Compensation Range:

A reasonable estimate for an appointment to instruct a standard five-credit course is between $8,282 and $10,807, based on salary points 1-10. Please refer to the relevant salary scales for further details. Compensation for summer courses may differ from that of the academic year.


Workload:
Variable, contingent upon the assigned course load.

Position Description

The Community Studies Program at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for a continuous pool of lecturers who may be appointed to teach both topical and core curriculum courses.

We are seeking applications from exceptional candidates to provide primarily upper-division instruction in various topical areas, including but not limited to:

  • Community organizing
  • Social movements
  • Experiential education theory and practice
  • Non-profit organization studies
  • Health justice
  • Health policy analysis, advocacy, and activism
  • Critical public health
  • Community research methodologies
  • Urban studies
  • Urban and regional political economy
  • Local and global food systems and movements
  • Labor and global political economy
  • Ethnography
  • General anthropology
  • Political science

The selected candidates will leverage their professional expertise and content knowledge in relevant social science and humanities disciplines to enhance the learning experience.

We are particularly interested in applicants with a proven track record of effective teaching at the college or research university level, or those with professional experience demonstrating teaching proficiency, such as organizing or facilitating workshops, seminars, and training sessions.

The campus is especially keen on candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their teaching and other responsibilities.

QualificationsBasic Qualifications:

Master's degree or higher (or equivalent foreign degree) or a Bachelor's degree accompanied by two years of professional experience in a field relevant to the advertised topical areas.
