Research Assistant I

Most human disorders have a genetic component, and Genome Wide Analysis Studies (GWAS) coupled with cutting edge sequencing technologies (i.e., NGS) allow for the identification of new mutations that contribute to diseases such as dementia or cancer.
Genetically modified (GM) animals are the most powerful tools to understand the mechanisms underlying physiological processes and their pathological counterparts. They are also invaluable tools to search for disease modifiers and to develop and test novel treatment strategies.
The Genetically Engineered Mouse Facility (GEMF) is a platform that generates customized rodent models for medical research purposes. We use cutting-edge technologies (including engineered endonucleases such as TALEN and CRISPR) for genome editing and aim at developing sophisticated animal models for the study of human diseases, particularly cancer.
KEY FUNCTIONS
- Generates new rodent models of human diseases by successful gene targeting.
- Conducts experiments based on assisted reproductive technologies (ART), gene editing and molecular biology.
- Requires a willingness to learn new techniques that are needed for the development of new protocols.
- Follows lab protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Processes and evaluates data obtained in accordance with methods requested. Maintains accurate and detailed records of experimental data and protocols.
- Orders and organizes laboratory supplies. Prepares sterile media, buffers and stock solutions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
