Position Overview:

Wolfe Research is in search of an Associate based in Houston to support its highly regarded Integrated Oil & Gas Exploration team, recognized by Institutional Investor. The Associate will work closely with the Senior Analyst, contributing to various facets of the Oil & Gas division, including financial modeling, report preparation, and the development of unique research insights. As the Associate gains experience, the role will evolve to include client interactions and collaboration with sales and trading teams, fostering a creative research environment. This position demands precision, meticulous attention to detail, and robust analytical thinking. Proficiency in writing, financial modeling, Excel, and PowerPoint is essential. Previous experience in equity research, investment banking, public accounting, consulting, or the Oil & Gas sector is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Idea Generation: Collaborate effectively in a fast-paced setting, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines while demonstrating strong organizational and client service skills.
  • Innovative Problem Solving: Analyze extensive data sets using Excel/Access and independently source and process information.
  • Effective Communication: Exhibit strong writing capabilities, ensuring clarity and conciseness in all communications.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with Bloomberg and/or FactSet is beneficial, alongside advanced Excel skills including macros, pivot tables, and statistical analysis.
  • Excel Mastery: Utilize advanced Excel functions, create complex formulas, and integrate visual data presentations.
Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years of experience in sell-side research (preferably within an Energy/Oil & Gas team), buy-side, investment banking, public accounting, consulting, or relevant industry experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution, with a focus in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, or Statistics preferred.
  • MBA, CPA, or CFA designation is a plus.
  • Advanced financial modeling skills, including the ability to construct and maintain comprehensive 3-statement models.
  • Possession of Series 7, 63, 86 & 87 licenses is preferred, or expected to be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • A genuine interest in the stock market and a passion for developing industry insights, particularly in the Refiners subsector.
  • Able to thrive in a dynamic environment, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to work extended hours and occasional weekends.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence with a minimum GPA of 3.5.
At Wolfe Research, we are committed to equitable compensation practices and transparency in pay. The compensation for this position is competitive, with a base salary range of $90,000 to $110,000, determined by non-discriminatory factors such as skills, experience, and location. Additionally, we provide an annual discretionary incentive bonus and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, as well as generous paid time off policies.
