Position Overview

The City of Norfolk, VA is seeking a dedicated Community Engagement and Volunteer Program Manager to lead and enhance our volunteer initiatives within the Animal Care Center. This role is pivotal in fostering community involvement and ensuring the welfare of our animals through effective volunteer management.

Key Responsibilities

As the Community Engagement and Volunteer Program Manager, you will:

1. **Develop and Implement Volunteer Strategies**: Create innovative recruitment and retention strategies to attract and maintain a diverse volunteer base.
2. **Conduct Training and Orientation**: Organize and facilitate comprehensive training sessions for new volunteers, ensuring they are well-prepared for their roles.
3. **Mentorship and Support**: Provide ongoing support and mentorship to volunteers, serving as a primary contact during their service hours.
4. **Social Media Management**: Curate and manage engaging content across social media platforms to promote volunteer opportunities and highlight volunteer contributions.
5. **Program Development**: Design specialized programs and training sessions to enhance volunteer skills and program effectiveness.
6. **Event Coordination**: Plan and execute community outreach events, both on-site and off-site, to promote animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
7. **Data Management**: Utilize data management systems to track volunteer participation and program success, generating reports as necessary.
8. **Communication**: Maintain effective communication with volunteers through various channels, ensuring they feel valued and informed.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

- A minimum of two years of experience in business administration or customer service.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with volunteer management software.
- A foundational understanding of animal health and welfare.
